a. Note:   [Connecticut Gazette, 22 Aug 1788] Tuesday morning last, Capt William Packwood of this City, having put a young ungoverned horse into a cart, with a view to break him, his negro got into it, and attempted to ride off, but the horse suddenly starting forward, Capt. Packwood found himself in danger and endeavoured to get out of the way by running towards a board fence, but the horse running the sam way, the end of one of the shafts struck him just below the ribbs, and separated the ribbs from the breast bone. A mortification took place and he died between 9 and 10 o'clock the same evening --- aged 52 years. [Excerpts from the Correspondence of Nathaniel Shaw Jr] --- New London, May 6th 1766, to Mr William Packwood att St Pieres Martineco: "...your Brother Joseph is not Arived which gives me much Concern..." --- New London, January 21st 1767, to Mr John R Myers, Mercht in New York: "...I this day Received a letter from Capt Joseph Packwood who is Safe arived att Monti Christi in ye Brigg Lucretia, and Informs me that he saild from Martineco the 10th of November in Co with John Shackmaple in the Sloop Nancy and Wm Packwood in the Sloop Dove..." --- Will of William Packwood, dated 1783, leaves estate to wife Abigail. After her death, real estate is to be equally divided among sons, personal estate to be equally divided among daughters. Codicil states that if son Richard proves to be a spendthrift, then his portion is to go to his children.
  Per final settlement of estate in 1808 after death of Abigail, sons Richard, William the younger and Thomas were deceased. Per will of son William the younger dated 1802, his estate was to go to his sisters, Sally Deshon and Nabby Boureau. Estate settlement papers show that estate was divided among son Samuel; dau Sally Deshon (wife of Daniel Deshon); dau Nabby Boureau (wife of Francis Boureau); son-in-law Daniel Deshon (received that part of the estate that was to go to son George Packwood); grandsons Harris, Joseph and Thomas Rogers (identified in the settlement as sons of deceased dau Fanny Packwood and her first husband Harris Rogers); grandsons Daniel Jr, William, Henry, James and Giles Deshon (identified as sons of deceased dau Mary Ann Packwood and Daniel Deshon)
