a. Note:   John McLeavy, veteran mining engineer and one of the firstoperators to invade the coal fields of Western Pennsylvania,founder of the mining towns of Walston, Adrian, Eleanora andHelvetia, and one of Punxsutawney's best known and most esteemedresidents for more than half a century, died at his home on PineStreet, this city, at 11 o'clock last night. Death came to himafter an illness of more than four months, at the age of 80years. He was a native of Ireland, born there on June 14, 1840.He grew to manhood in Scotland and came to America in 1867. Helocated in Fayette County and for 15 years was connected withthe Dunbar Furnace Company there as manager of that company'smines. He was first married to a Miss Wagner, of Fayette County,whose death occurred 23 years ago. To this marriage one son andthree daughters survive: James McLeavy, of this city; Mrs. J.D.McTigh, of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Wilbur Smith, of San Bernandino,Cal.; Miss Katherine McLeavy, of Pittsburgh. His second marriagewas to Miss Mary Duffy, of Pittsburgh, who with four children,Ellen, Margaret, John and Esther, all at home, survive. Funeralservices will probably be held Friday morning but completearrangements for the service have not been made.
