Note: Buried in Irvington, KY From the Hardinsburg Independent, Hardinsburg, Kentucky, October 5, 1934 "Rev. Deacon Moved to Guthrie with Family" Rev. and Mrs. E. P. Deacon and daughter, Miss Carolyn Deacon, left Wednesday morning for their new home at Guthrie, Kentucky, where the Rev. Mr. Deacon was assigned to that charge at the session of the Louisville conference of the M. E. Church, south, held last week at Lebanon Junction. The Rev. Mr. Deacon, four years pastor of the local Methodist Church, South, has showed marked ability as a financier, for it was during his pastorate here that the new Methodist Church, South, was erected or rebuilt, after the former building was destroyed by fire, in the winter of 1932. The Rev. Mr. Deacon's youngest son, Powell Deacon, is a well-known teacher of the county and their daughter, Miss Carolyn Deacon, has a number of friends here. The Rev. and Mrs. Clyde Owen and their 19-months old son are expected to arrive this week to take up the work upon this field, which includes the churches of Hardinsburg, Harned and Glen Dean. From an unknown newspaper "Funeral Held Monday for Rev. E. P. Deacon" The Rev. E. P. Deacon, 75, died at the Baptist Hospital in Louisville Saturnay at 12:03 a.m. Funeral services were held at the Irvington Methodist church Monday afternoon. The pastor, the Rev. S. J. Henninger, officiated and was assisted by the Rev. D. M. Spears, Superintendent of the West Louisville District of the Louisville Methodist Conference. Alexander Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Rev. Deacon was a retired Methodist minister. He served with distinction many churches in Kentucky during his 48 years of faithful service. In 1924 and 1925 he lived in Irvington and was pastor of Irvington, Webster and Bewleyville churches. During his ministry, he also served other Breckinridge county churches. For four years he was pastor of churches on the Hardinsburg charge including Hardinsburg, Harned and Glen Dean. Since retirement four years ago, Rev. and Mrs. Deacon lived at Hardinsburg for two years and then moved to Irvington to a new home which they built. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Isabel Gardner Deacon; two sons, Murrell Deacon, principal of Lexington Junior High School, at Lexington and Powell Deacon, Executive Secretary of Y.M.C.A. in Hawaii; two grand daughters and two grandsons. Preceding Rev. Deacon in death were his first wife and two daughters, Gladys and Carolyn.
