a. Note:   g there about 1809 or 1810. He and Jonathan Neeley were residents near a place known as Wert's tavern on the north side of the State Road west of Canton, Ohio. Neeley later moved to near Indianapolis, Indiana. This would explain later Croninger moves to that area of Indiana. Benjamin enlisted in the regiment of Canton Blue Rifles, commanded by Capt. George Stedger, at Canton, Ohio about 3rd of August, 1812 for service in the War of 1812. He was discharged at Middle Sandusky, Ohio, 1st February 1813. He reenlisted in a volunteer organization to retake Fort Mackinaw, Green Bay at which place he was engaged with the British and Indians. He was in this service for about nine months. Several of the records, applications in his Pension Record include a spelling of his name as Chroninger. He is listed as a land-holder in 1827 of Sugar Creek Township in "History of Stark County, Ohio." In the late 1850's he sold his land near Beach City, Stark Co., Ohio and went to Marion County, Indiana. He obtained land and a grist mill on the west side of Fall Creek, just opposite a saw-mill. He either joined or was joined by two of his sons; Leonard and Francis (Benjamin), who bought the mill from their father. They owned and operated it until 1864. This site is presently covered by the Geist Reservoir in Indianapolis.
