Notes
a. Note:   Mollie (Mary ?), the fourth of nine children born to Hosea and Susan (Kempson) Gray grew up on the "Gray Place" about 6 miles East of Haralson, GA. She attended a grade school in the local area know as "Calico Corners", it's exact location being somewhat indefinite. Because of the six children younger than she, her chores at helping with rearing them were considerable. The family made many of their own clothes and Mollie's job was to operate the hand loom involved in weaving the cloth.
This clothing was made from cotton grown on the farm and since was no cotton gin in the area it is said that all the children had to pick enough cotton seeds (from the cotton) to fill their shoes every night before going to bed. This cleaned cotton then was spun into thread the following day.
Prior to John Wilbon's appearance on the scene as Mollie's suitor, she had been promised a tract of Gray land when she married on condition that her husband turn out to be a "good citizen". This then was to become the source of the farm land whereon John Wilbon and Mollie raised their 12 children. When this evetually came to pass and the land transferred, it was deeded ONLY to Mollie Tranquilla.
In later years when all the children were grown and away and Mollie a widow living in Haralson, she deeded the farm to her first born - Nellie Faye and Nellie's husband Hugh Johnson who were living on the old home site with their family of 3 children.
