Notes
a. Note:   Martha Samantha Hayes was a neice of Gordon I's grandfather, Justin Hayes. Albert, Martha, Earle, and Nellie Tripp were on a neighboring farm to Gordon Arthur Hayes I & II on Vaugn Road, Fort Ann. NY. Gordan at one time owned 1000 acres and the largest barn in Washington County, had a herd of milk cows, and boarded horses for the DUDE RANCHES during the winter. After selling the large dairy farm, he bought another place on Bentley Road, which had been a waystation for slaves escaping to Canada. Gordan Arthur Hayes, Sr. built a camp on Scroon River, which was passed down to Gordan Jr.,and which has been the site of our Hayes family reunions. Gordon's brother Manley, Uncle Mike, had a camp next door, which, has since been sold out of the family. Gordon I once lived on LAKE CHAMPLAIN, at BENSON, VERMONT. In 1962 he hired a farmer with a horse and wagon to take the family back in to see the place. Gordon & Jennie were introduced by Walter Rafferty and Hazel Hayes, after both their first spouses had died. They married and started their third family at Denver and delivered milk there, until they came east to Vaugn Road during the depression. They lived next door to the Tripp's for at least thirty years on Vaughn Road. Gordon Hayes b. 9-May-1889, at Horicon (now Brant Lake) New York, m. (1) Ethel Gibbard, m. (2) Jennie Bowen.
