McNew, Defendant | Be it remembered on this 18th day of February, 1946, the above cause came on for hearing in its regular order, plaintiff appearing in person and by her attorneys, Doran, Doran & Doran of Boone, Iowa, and the defendant failing to appear, the court upon examination of the records and files finds that the defendant has by written stipulation entered into herein waived the service of notice, time of filing petition and entered his appearance and has consented to the jurisdiction of the court; said defendant having failed to appear or plead, he is now adjudged in default and his default is duly entered of record. This cause then proceeds to trial upon the plaintiff's evidence and the court after listening to the evidence finds that the allegations of the plaintiff's petition are true and that the plaintiff is entitled to a decree of divorce in all as prayed for in said petition. It is further found that the parties hereto have entered into a property settlement by written stipulation and the same is hereby in all respects approved. IT IS THEREFORE ORDERED, ADJUDGED AND DECREED that the said plaintiff be and she is hereby granted an absolute divorce from the said defendant, and the costs of this action are hereby in all respects taxed to the defendant. Mrs. McNew died of a heart attack Monday, Feb. 7, at the Good Samaritan Center in Indianola after a two-week illness. Mrs. McNew was born in Promise City and lived in Boone for 30 years. She moved to Des Moines in 1969 and lived there until moving to Indianola four years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Leota Mae Sternquist of Indianola; a son, Harold E. of Des Moines; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Dodson of Pontiac, IL; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. McNew [mother] is in the next space, Dorothy Jean McNew [still living 1998] headstone in the third space, headstone of Tech. Sgt. Harold E. McNew [ashes were spread over grave space]. He was not. He was born in Schuyler County, Illinois in 1844 or 1846. There is a discrepancy between his death certificate and the newspaper obituary. Mr. McNew's mother was born in Jackson County, Ohio in 1849 before crossing the prairie at the age of 5 to Allendale, Worth County (formerly Gentry Co.,) Missouri. Her father was Alexander R. Daniels born in Essex County, New York and her mother was Susannah Bell born in Prince George's County, Maryland.
