Note: na, returning to Ohio in 1837 and marrying Ann Lowry Mercer on Aug. 10, 1837. He had a new carriage made to his order in Dayton, Ohio, andin this he took her to Indiana and settled on Potato Creek in St. Joseph County, in a new frame house which he built himself on some heavily timbered land which he owned and on which he put up a saw mill. Several years later, he bought a farm on Sumption Prairie and lived on it for many years. After his children were grown up, he build a house in South Bend, where he resided until his death in 1886. Ann Mercer died in 1874. In 1881, he came to North Dakota, purchased land and built a house on some of it, one-half mile south of Sheldon. while he never changed his permanent residence, he spent some of his summers in North Dakota and died there, of pneumonia.
