insert; The following information on Robert Eli Jones was given by his nephew on his wife's side (Owens), Keziah had a sister Jane and this information was given by her son John Gierke of " Chalgrove " 25 Robertson St., Sherwood.
John spent Christmas holidays with his uncle and aunt at their home in Crescent Road Gympie, he went on holidays with them to Gympie Terrace at Noosa. John called his uncle RE, he said that when RE came to Brisbane he would dress in Edwardian style, they would stay at John's mothers place. RE worked as a blacksmith in the Gympie Railway yards, John can recall going there with RE and obtained rides on the steam engines around the rail yards. The house in Crescent Road was brought as a cash sale when he married Keziah. John recalls that RE re-stumped the house and put a bathroom under it around 1936,he also added a fernery on the right side of the house in 1938. RE had to get things right the first time, if it did not then he would throw it away and start again. RE fought against innovations such as electricity and wireless, John said he had only one water point in the house and this was on the back landing, so all the water had to be carried into the house. As a wedding present from his parents, he was given a gas stovette, he would not have this connected and only used the wood stove. RE was a smoker and a SP Gambler, he had many wins but no one heard about the losses he had. RE was a life member of the Rechabite Lodge, which was a non-drinkers Lodge, it is still going in the Gympie area. RE belonged to the Red Hill Tent, some information is still to come to hand on this. RE and his wife, Keziah never got over the death of Tommy Jones, the only son of Alex and his wife Lillian Jones, who came to live with RE after the death of Lillian. Tommy was run over by a car after some children had bullied him at school. RE continued to talk about this for many years. Another noted fact is when John's mother wrote to her sister Keziah she had to address it as follows. RE Jones Esquire, as this was requested by RE. In all the times that John can recall RE never spoke about his side of the family, it was always the Owens side, but one time when RE was in Brisbane a brother came to visit him, he turned out to be Fred who worked for an Insurance company. I myself, Tom Jones feel indebted to John for giving me an insight into the kind of man that RE was and to learn what he was like in his ideas. Thank you John.
Note:   Robert and Keziah had no children of their own but looked after Alex's children
