Note: Retired Army Doctor Dies Dr. James Winlock Stevens, 82, died at 2:45 AM,Thursday at Dyess AFB Hospital. The surgeon and retired Army doctor entered thehospital Tuesday. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Elliott's FuneralHome. Dr. Stevens of 1400 Westview in Abilene, was born July 29, 1882, inLeids, Alabama, and attended the University of Tennessee and Baylor MedicalSchool. He married Hannah Agnes Adelia Crane Hamilton in Tucson, Arizona, June18, 1938. They moved to Abilene, Texas from Oklahoma City in 1956.He practiced medicine in Oklahoma City until his retirement and thenmoved to Abilene. Dr. Stevens, a retired Army Major, served in both World Wars I and II. He entered the U. S. Army in 1918 and retired from the service in1945. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Church ofChrist. Surviving are his wife; two sons, James of Lubbock, Texas, and Paul ofSanta Fe, New Mexico; a foster daughter, Mrs. Shirley Jane LindseyTyler of 3666 Ambler in Abilene; eight grandchildren and fivegreat-grandchildren; two brother, Joe and John, both of Leonard,Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Celia Owen of Leonard and Mrs. BeatriceWoodruff of Shallowater, Texas. ******
