Note: winter of 1941 (December?) while waiting to move in with mygrandmother; Bridget LaHoud. Grandma (Sithy?) spoke very littleenglish, if any. I lived with her during the year 1942 until aboutthe summer of 1943 when my mother came to Saugerties, NY to live. Myuncle Johnnie LaHoud lived at home at the time I was there(apparently) entering the military, subsequently to see duty in theSouth Pacific. He was to return home with terminal cancer (after Ileft Grandma's. I found that Johnnie was a stern individual; but thenI did not know him very well. It was tough being a 'visitor' in thathousehold; having recently lost my father. But, it would seem thatJohnnie just wanted me to get the most of every thing. I can remembernights studying my catechism; and how little I enjoyed studying. Weeach would spend a great deal of the evening poring over the text. (Idon't know that I've gotten much out of that exercise!)
