Note:   A tribute published in the pages of "The Arkansas Democrat", Little Rock, Arkansas, April 30, 1997: Memorial Obituary Entered Into Eternal Rest Monday, April 28, 1997 James Hays Matthews STUTTGART - James Hays Matthews, 58, passed from this life Monday, April 28, 1997. He was a member of Hamilton Baptist Church of Carlisle. He proudly served his country with 21 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was currently employed by ACME Heating and Air. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Esther Cochran Matthews; one daughter, Pamela Lott, and son-in-law, Ronnie Lott of Gravel Ridge; one sister, Mary Horton of Little Rock; two brothers, Guy Matthews of San Diego, CA, and Roger Matthews of Sheldon, MO; two grandsons, David Lott of Malvern, and Samuel Lott of Gravel Ridge. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at Hamilton Missionary Baptist Church, Carlisle. Burial in Hamilton Cemetery by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke. Memorials may be made to Dennard Cemetery or Hamilton Cemetery. James was preceded in death by his parents, James Madison and Sarah Opal Matthews; and a brother, Charles Matthews, all of Clinton, AR.
