Note: MT. CARMEL CEMETERY Mt Carmel Cemetery is a very old cemetery. Falling at a map corner, the cemetery is indicated on the U.S.G.S. Bath Springs (1972), Clifton (1972), Perryville (1986), and Pope (1973) quadrangles. There are several hundred unmarked graves here. Many fieldstones remain in place. Many more had been gathered into large piles of stones. Several graves are marked by rock cairns. This cemetery was recorded in 1994. Updated December 27, 1996. Am earlier record of this cemetery was made by Margarett Alexander and Blanche Tuten on August 1, 1976. Their record appears in Decatur County, Tennessee Cemetery Records published by the Captain Nathaniel A. Wesson Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Parsons, Tennessee, 1984, 337-352. Reference is made to their work where appropriate. Alexander and Tuten note "at lease 200 unmarked graves."
