Wright home on Highway 50, 4 miles west of Vevay as told to Beryl Malcomson by Ophelia Tilley Andres, a daughter of Ben [William] Tilley and Abigal Lamson Tilley. It was in 1843 that the young school teacher Abigale Lamson having closed her school, about 1 mile south of Braytown where McKay Cemetery is now located, began to plan for her wedding to the husky young man William Tilley who had just returned from helping her father take a flatboat to New Orleans. Of course the wedding would take place in the bride's home, but a wedding celebration at the groom's home known as a enfare was a custom of those days. Mr. Tilley being an orphan boy had made his home with John W. Wright assisting him with the farm and flat boat trade. Mrs. Wright the former Ellen Lorrey graciously offered to serve the enfare dinner. Busily the preparations were made for the gala occasion. The house and farm put in order, even a large rose bush in the back yard being sacrificed so the long tables could be stretched for the feast. On Sunday the young Mrs. Wright and her 3 small children attended the Braytown Christian Church. She would have united with the church and been baptized that day but on account of her husband's absence postponed this step. In the following week she contracted diphtheria and when all hope of recovery was lost, she asked that a skiff be brought in the house filled with water, this was done and on the day that was to have been a wedding c
