Notes
a. Note:   Obituary -- Vevay Reveille ? May, 1904 Mrs. Abigail Tilley Dead Mrs. Abigail Lamson Tilley, widow of the late William Tilley and one of the pioneers of the county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sam Andres, near Brooksburg, on Monday evening, May 23rd, at ten o'clock. She had for some months past been a sufferer from rheumatism, but grew suddenly worse on Sunday morning and was unconscious most of the time until her death. She was born Jan. 18, 1821, and had long passed the allotted time of the human race, but it was evident to them that knew her that her light which had shone for 83 years was the result of a beautiful Christian faith. Many years ago she united with the Christian church under the pastorate of the Rev. Chas. Lanham, an uncle of the present pastor of the Vevay church, and continued in her labors until age with its infirmities compelled her to cease her labors. Early in the 40's she was united in marriage to Wm. Tilley to whom were born eight children, five of whom are still living to mourn the loss of a dear mother: namely, Edward, John and Wallace, of this city, Mrs. Opha Andres, of near Brooksburg, and with whom she made her home until her demise, and Mrs. Irene Stoops, of New Mexico. Preceding her to the Eternal City are her husband, and three daughters: Alpha, wife of Thomas Heath, Lulu, wife of Frank Seiglitz, a former resident of this county, and Eliza, who died in infancy. The funeral services were held at the home of her son Edward, on Market Street at 2:30 yesterday afternoon. Another pioneer gone to join the hosts that have gone before, but her memory and example will always be cherished by those who knew her. Her remains were laid beside her departed loved ones in the Vevay Cemetery. The bereaved family have the sympathy and condolence of the entire community.
