Note: Ottie, Sr. served in the Army during WWI. He was an excellent carpenter, and also helped build the stone house which was the main residence of the Coke Stephenson family of Junction, Texas. Coke was a former Governor of Texas. Ottie worked as a ranch hand for the Stephenson's for some time. Employed in this capacity, he "rode" the ranch on horseback. Ramona and LaRue were born here. They lived in a one or two room "shack" on the Stephenson ranch right on the Llano river. They had to move up the bluffs one year and spent a day in a cave when the Llano flooded. Dad (LaRue was only 2 weeks old at the time). Per Uncle Lee (Ottie, Jr.) Grandpa and Grandma met at a house dance. Moves: Corpus Christi to Junction, to Harwood, Tx (Aunt Mona was 6 or 7 yoa and in the first grade; lived there for 2 - 3 years, to Gonzales (ran a cafe), to Waller (1949). Research: a cousin of Ottie's named Alan or Allen Bowers who served in WWII and survived the Bataan Death March as a prisoner of the Japanese. Also stories of him surviving a parachute accident when chute didn't open. Research: Per Aunt Mona, they used to go to family reunions in Junction, at a farm/ranch on the Llano River at "Crate and Annies" house/land. They used to camp out in tents on the river. Used to go to Waller and spend weekends going hunting with him.
