Notes
a. Note:   He came from Czechoslovakia to the US with parents at 13 yrs of age. He first came to Omaha, later moving to Colfax Co., NE. He left two
half-sisters in Czechoslovakia. A half-sister married a Mr. Piskac. From obituary, Colfax County, Nebraska, Friday, February 23, 1923: From
out west, in Montana, came the message last week notifying relatives that
death had claimed Vaclav Hruska, who has been making his home on a farm
near Lewistown since leaving here in the spring of 1904. The news
carried with it a sincere regret for his friends here are many, and their
friendship carries back to the days of long ago, when he came here with his parents in the fall of 1871. He had the true pioneer spirit and
realized by experience the fortitude and faith that builded for the
development of this wonderful empire. Coming to America at the age of seven years with his parents from Stuparovice county, Caslav, Bohemia,
where he was born sixty-four years last September, he became a resident
of this county, in Maple Creek precinct. With the exception of two years
spent in Omaha he made his home here for thirty-three years. In
September, 1880, he was married at Sacred Heart church at Olean to Miss Anna Fiala, who, with seven sons and five daughters survives him, one
child having died in infancy while the family made their residence here.
The children are Joseph, Charles, Julia, James, jr., Mary, Albert, Anna,
Martha, George, Caroline, Frank and Ernest, all residents of near
Lewistown, Mont. Although the possessor of a good farm here his spirit
craved for expansion, a desire to overcome and conquer. He wanted to go
westward into the great northwest where the country was opening in
Montana, where nature in all its virgin beauty appealed to him where the currents of life were stimulating and the demands of life were soul
satisfying. Through the courtesy of the Kopac brothers, who were guests
at the Hruska home some years ago, we were shown pictures of the beauty
of the scenery there; their land was pleasantly situated in a fertile
section of the country abounded with game in the nearby mountains and streams are the anglers' delight. Mr. and Mrs. Hruska prospered and
lived to see their children share in the general prosperity, for since
going there the country developed into one of the most productive
 sections of our great northwest.
For years Mr. Hruska's health has been gradually declining, and when word
came some months ago that he was failing rapidly, his brother, Joseph of
this place, left for Lewistown and was with him when the final summons
came on Wednesday, February fourteenth. Beside the brother, his death is
also mourned by two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Semerad (should be Mejstrik) and
Mrs. Frank Semerad, both residing in this county, in Maple Creek
precinct. Friends sympathize with them, for their brother was one of
 nature's noblemen - big-hearted, good-natured, just and generous, a man
who loved the great open and believed in the brotherhood of man. The
funeral was held Saturday morning, with services at the Catholic church
at Lewistown of which the deceased was a devout attendant.
Throughout all the years since leaving here the Journal has been a weekly
 visitor at his home.
