Note: Was Secretary and Treasurer of his high school class at Naples H. S. He and his brother went on to finish at Texarkana H. S., so that they could take more advanced work. In 1926 he gave a talk at the Eppworth League (forrunner of the Methodist Youth Fellowship) on the topic of "steadfastness". A classmate recalls the time that James and two friends ran off from a class outing to go fishing and caught some fish too big to keep, and James jumped in the air when he saw a snake between his feet. James was the Valedictorian of his Naples H. S. Class.The couple's first home was at 138 west Twelfth St. in Dallas, TX. After gradution from high school, James worked in several banks. He worked his way up from teller to president and chairman of the board of the Oak Cliff Bank and Trust in Dallas. He served on many civic organization boards and was very active in politics in Texas, working with Presidents, Senators and Representatives of his era. He led his bank in building the tallest office building in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas. He loved to travel, hunt, fish, and spend time at this father's farm in Naples, Texas.
