Continued: Mary Jane Skinner graduated from Woodward High School. She becameorganist of Pilgrim Church. She was married by its minister, Rev HughSmythe. She moved to Cleveland in 1875. She was active in connectionwith operating a home for unfortunate girls, as Treasurer, also withBethlehem Mission, conducting services for Bohemians, as Treasurer.She moved to Denver, with he children in July 1892. She was a chartermember of New Century and Fourth Avenue (literary) Clubs. She wasTreasurer and member of Board of Directors of Young Women's ChristianAssociation many years. She was on the Board of the NeighborhoodHouse Association (caring for children of day-working mothers). Shewas first Treasurer and then President of the Old Ladies' Home forseven years. She "acted as counsellor to associates whom she met,regardless of their station, and therfore had friends in every walk oflife", "who were attracted by her lovable personality, her sympatheticnature and her many accomplishments." In accord with the precedingquotes, it seems certain to Lewis Bailey Skinner that those who knewhis mother will agree that she possessed outstandingly thosequalities, rare among women, of being uanaffectedly sojudicially-minded and so possessed of executive ability that she waseffective in disposing of the troubles of individuals andorganizations seeking her out incessantly. Always a student, she keptherself posted on important current features, instead of wasting timeon the trivialities so many women fancy.
