While in the Army John and his first wife Edna Moody got a divorice. John was in the Army for 7 years when he got a medical discharge. After gettin discharged from the Army, John returned to Poga which is on the Tennessee and North Carolina when he met his wife Anna Mae Guy. They stayed married still his death.
