Note: rtificates of his son Samuel, where he's listed as a bricklayer. In the 1891 census his wife Ann is listed as widowed. In the 1881 census it's difficult to tell, but she is living with their son Samuel and her cousin, so it's likely that he died between 1874 (when their son was born) and 1881.
