a. Note:   Name Suffix:<NSFX> Rev. Martin Hauser was a Moravian minister. He moved to Indiana with Susannaand their four oldest children in 1829, where he was pastor for thecongregation at Hope. The NC Moravian records indicate that he madenumerous trips back and forth to Salem in the 1830s and 1840s, and hebrought his daughters Sophia and Malvina to attend school in 1840. In1847 he became the pastor of the Moravian congregation in New Salem, IL.In that year he also brought daughters Anna and Emeline to Salem forschool. After Susanna's death, he married Eliza Burkett Spaugh, widow ofBenjamin Charles Spaugh.

  Last Will and Testament of Martin Houser, Decd. In the Name of God, Amen.
  I, Martin Hauser, of the town of Hope Bartholomew County State ofIndiana, being of sound mind and memory but considering the uncertaintyof this life do on this Fifteenth of October A.D. One Thousand EightHundred and Seventy Five make publish and ordain this my last Will andTestament, in manner and form as follows: I give my son Edwin T. all mywearing apparel and Clarke Commentary. To my daughter Susanna E. wife ofGeorge Fry a silver watch known as her Mothers watch. To my daughterMary Ann wife of Daniel Bruner and Caroline wife of John G. Michel eachFifty ($ 50) Dollars. To each of the Children of my Daughter Melvinadecd. Twenty ($ 25) Five Dollars. To my Daughter Anna wife of CharlesFoster the balance of my library except what is specially bequeathedhereafter. To my Daughter Emmy wife of Lewis A. Levering I give myDiary. To my Daughter Caroline I give my walnut-wardrobe. To mySon-In-Law Gaither C. Walser, I give my new State Map of Indiana andZeisberger's history. To my son-in-law John G. Luther I give all myGerman books. As I conveyed to my Son-In-Law Lewis A. Levering and hiswife Sophia T. by a deed dated October ninth (9) 1875 Five lots sin thecity of Olney State of Illinois, I will that the said lots shall beconsidered as a part or the whole of her share of my estate, and Valuedat Three hundred ($ 300.00) Dollars from said date of conveyance withinterest at six (6) percent and be deducted from her share or legacy. I order that Fifty Dollars ($ 50) of the share or legacy of myDaughter Anna shall be paid to my daughter Sophia. Also Twenty five ($25.00) Dollars of the share or legacy of my daughter Susanna E. shall bepaid to my Daughter Caroline and Twenty five ($ 25.00) of the share of myDaughter Emmy shall be paid to my Daughter Mary Ann. I make this orderin consideration of the Real Estate I gave to my Sons-in-Law during mylifetime. I order that all my Real Estate in the Town of Hope Indiana,West Salem and Olney Illinois shall be sold to the best advantage publicor private sale and the money arising from such sales as also from thesale of my personal property and what is due by notes, bonds, or anyother obligations and after all my debts and expenses are paid, and allthe foregoing bequests paid shall be divided among all my lawful andlegal heirs. I order and empower my Executors to make execute anddeliver to the purchaser of any of my Real Estate a lawful Deed orconveyance. I will that my body shall be placed in a plain walnut-coffinwithout ornaments and conveyed to West Salem Illinois and buried by theside of my first wife. My executors when engaged in attending tocarrying out the provisions of this my Will and Testament shall eachreceive Three Dollars per day and all reasonable expenses paid. Lastly Iappoint Calvin C. Blum of Bartholomew County Indiana and Herman M.Shaefer of West Salem Edwards County Illinois Executors of this my lastWill and Testament.
