Notes
a. Note:   istoph Breddin, the son of a farmer, decided to emigrate from his home in Bendilin, district of Potsdam, Prussisa, and made his way to Altone, the seaport of Hamburg in Schlewig-Holstien. Altona then was only a small town full of excitement and chaotic activity, as great numbers of immigrants arrived to embark for their overseas journey. Here it was that he met and married Anna Elizabeth Danieline Matilda Warns in a civil ceremony at the American Consulate on 15 September, 1863. However, instead of America they chose Australia for their destination, departing on the 'Susanne Giddefroy' on September 22. The voyage was extremely hard and hazardous one, the ship being demasted when she emt the fury of the Roaring Forties off Tretan d'Acunda. However, they were desembarked in Brisbane safely on January 21 1864, on to be met with the discomforts of the 'wet' with rising rivers. Later in 1864, Matilda and Christopher had settled at Oxley Creek, where their first child Anna Elizabeth was born. This area had been split up into 20-30 acre farms in 1860 when Queensland became a seperate colony, and the dense scrubs and tall forests were being cleaned for the growing of sugar and cotton, lucerene, maize, pumpkins, arrow-root, potatoes and oats. Here Christoph obtained work as a labourer, it is thought as a timber cutter, with his tools of trade an axe, saw and boat.
Life was lived under harsh conditions, in tent or slab house with road non-existent, travel only by foot or boat, and several severe floods during the 1860's, but after the loss of 2 infants (1 male, 1 female)Matilda safely deliverd a son, Johan Ceasor, late in 1868. On Januar 25 that same year, Christopher had become a naturalised British citizen and it is interesting to note that , although the family was still living at Oxley Creek, he is now designated 'Farmer' with 'freehold Cobola Creek, Indooroopilly' as his stated qualification for enrolment. This is presumed to be portions 160-161, parish of Indooroopilly, for which land he was formally granted the registered title on 30 September, 1872. It is not known whent he family actually took up residence on the farm (now known as Wongabell Estate, Kenmore) but it is thought they may have lived temporarily at Haye's Waterhole, perhaps while hosing was built and/or wells dug, or perhaps because of dry weather conditoins.
A daughter, Georgina Louise, was bornin 1869 (place of birth and residence, simply stated by father as Indooroopilly, which in those days included Taringa, St Lucia and Kenmore. In 1871, another daughter Christina Matilda ws born, residence mOggil Creek, place of birth MOggil Road as stated by mother. The postal directoryof 1874 is the oldest available, which lists Breddin, Johann C. squatter, Indooroopilly, Brisbane. The farm prospered as a milk supply dair, and a comfortable cottage was built, a feature of the farm being the remarkable wells, one very salty and one with abundant, and extremely soft, water. Again the family suffered the loss of a male infant, then in 1875 Carl Christoph was safely delivered, and in 1876 another daughter, Maria Cahtarina. It is known that the youngest children attended school, first at Fig Tree Pocket, and later travelled by train, to the Normal School in the city, and participated in Methodist Church activities.
As the family prospered, moe land was acquired, (sub divisions 25 and 32 - portion 677) at Frederick St Taringa, in 1895; and possibly an area at Witten(Fig Tree Pocket), as the 1894-1898 Postal Directories list two farm addresses for Christopher J. Breddin Dairyman. Ceasor is also listed as farmer, Witten, and Charles at the Kenmore address. During the late 1880's, Christopher extended his interests into racing to the extent of racing his own horses. The family by this time was growing up. Elizabeth married William Treble Congram, who had a butchers shop at Tar
