Note: Bertha died at the age of 32 from a ruptured appendix leaving 6 young children. Lewis, unable to care for them, had the children placed with family members. They were:Vera, Orpha, Shirley,Grace, Lewis, Jr. and Jenny Mae. Lois died at birth.
