Note: unty, NC. The memoirs of Erasmus Alston Daniel, introduced and edited by Plummer Alston Jones, Jr. This was compiled originally in 1915 by Erasmus Alston Daniel, a Beaufort County attorney, serves as a complement and supplement to one compiled by Rosa (Marslender) Cratch, a contemporary of Daniel, at the same time. [published in the Dec. 1989 and June 1990 issues of Pamteco Tracings. Further research and tracings were added by Anna (Cayton) Rowe of Blounts Creek, Joliene Byrd Clark of Chesapeake, VA, and Van A. Stilley, of Wilmington, NC. Richard Jones, on 4 Apr 1741, bought 300 acres in Beaufort County on east side of Matchapungo Swamp. There are records indicating he was living in 1786-1790. There are records of a Reverend Walter Jones of Bath, born c. 1685 and died 1728. He may have been related to Richard's father. He married Dorothy Bodat, born c. 1704. Had children: Simon, Alice, Elizabeth (Betty), Ambrose, Walter Jr., and Liscom. Some of the same first names are carried through the generations. Found by Rhonda Toler Whitehurst in 'History of Bath', Brown Library History Room. There is record in 'County of Bath' May 1722 of a Sarah Jones death, leaving daughter's Monin Mitem, Charity Shutte, grandson Jeams (James) Smith, Sr., daughter's Elizabeth Carry, and Mary Smith who is a widow and executor of estate. There are further indications that Captain Josiah Jones of Vandemere, which was once part of Craven County, (now Pamlico County) may have been Richard's brother. He was a seaman and was very wealthy. On 1 July 1758, he purchased 302 acres on the Southside of Pamplico River and northwest side of Dividing Creek. Also, on 28 June 1738 he purchased 400 acres on the northside of Bay River. Further, he purchased 100 acres, 25 Feb 1744, on the north side of Bay River. His children were: Solomon, Thomas born c. 1800 who married Sara Riggs, Morris, Edmond, Clem, Smith, Brittain, Maple, Sally, Ann, Patsy, and Annette. In Hyde County Wills 1709-1775, a David Jones left a will, dying 9 Jan 1753. Witnessed by Morrice (Morris) and Thomas Jones, executed March 1753. He left land in Currituck County to sons Morris, Christfur (Christopher), and Abraham. His offspring included daughter's Elizabeth Mason, Mary Jennett(e) and Ann, son David II, daughter Sarah Jennett(e), wife Elizabeth. He also left land at Strohorns Neck to son's Richard, Cornelus (Cornelius), and Solomon. Now, this explains the connection to Currituck County where this family originally settled, and further connection to Captain Josiah Jones. David Jones Sr. died 25 Sept 1756. Wife Elizabeth, son's Morris, David, Absalum (Absalom), and daughter Elizabeth. His brothers Morris and Thomas Jones executed the will March 1757. Witness Abraham Jones. Elizabeth Jones died 16 March 1765, leaving son Richard. Morris Jones died 25 Sept 1756 leaving wife, Mary a negro garl (sp) named Isbell, leaving son Henry a negro boy named Ishmael. He left his daughter's Elizabeth and Mary 100 acres apiece, left daughter's Ann and Neomy (Naomi) land, and Sarah nothing. His brother was Thomas Jones. All of these Jones' may have been related to our Jones family, as they lived in surrounding areas and family first names were carried through generations. ************************************************************************************************************ The foregoing researched further by Rhonda Toler Whitehurst, a descendant of the Jones' through the Tuten/Yeates/Hill lineage..
