Note: From Paper: Daily Enterprise, Burlington, N.J. p.1 & 3, Wed., July 22, 1903 Col. John Irick Shinn died after a 4 months painful illness, July 21, 1903. born Georgetown, Burlington County, N.J. Aug. 30, 1846. 6 sons and 2 daughters: Ridgeway - 6 yrs. in same company, died July 15, 1898 Frank - died on Sept. 29, 1900 Lived at 16 E. Pearl St. "entire 3rd Regiment attended, parade uniforms, 3rd regiment band, flags at half mast, stores closed during the funeral hours. " Old army horse, carrying his dead master's saddle sword, boots & spurs, with a cassock over all."
According to the Marriage record for John I. & Rachel, John was 27 when he married in 1867. therefore his birth year would be 1840, not 1846 as confirmed by the 1850 NJ Census. He should have been 21 and this could easily been a transcription error due to the fancy handwriting of the time period.
