Notes
a. Note:   James F. Trimble's Day Book. A book about 3.5 in wide by about 5.5 in high having a redish cover and containing 26 unlined pages. The outside of the front and back covers contain some faint and illegible writing or scribling. The inside front and back covers and each of the 26 pages contain handwriting, some made in ink and some in pencil. He used the book for various purposes such as to record items bought or sold, time worked by others for him. These entries are frequently scratched out with pencil.
The inside front cover contains doodles, scribbling and some items marked through. In the center of the page, written in ink, is the signature of James F Trimble. Just below this signature and written in pencil is "Trimble James." Both were written by the same person, presumable James F. Trimble.
The inside back cover contains the following entry written in ink.
J F Trimble Day Book. It was Lost but found Agen The bottom of page 1 contains the following entry written in ink:
This the 24 Day of June 1859 in the Page 10 contains the following medical instructions or orders apparently written and signed by a doctor. The script is definitely that of a more practiced writer than James. Give Mrs Trimble a quinine powder every 4 hours. Give her Calom al at bed time and if it does not act give oil until it does. If her cough - does not get better by tomorrow Evening put the(?) Tartar E(?)miticP into 12 teaspoonsfuls of water and if it pukes her add 2 or 3 spoonfuls more of water May 12th/60 T M Lewis (?) If her bowels should act too often give opium Note: Nettie Cris Roberts Trimble died on Jan 29, 1929 at the age of 93. The cause of death was listed as malaria. Nettie Cris would have been 24 years old when these orders were written, almost four months after her marriage to James F. Trimble. If Nettie Cris were the Mrs. Trimble referred to, the prescription of quinine powders in these orders would indicate that her malaria was of long standing. I assume that malaria would have been more prevalent in Alabama than in Kentucky. If so, Nettie Cris may have contacted malaria in early childhood and suffered from this disease almost all of her life.

  1. In his notes, my father lists 11 children for David Franklin and Nancy Tarter Trimble, the same number as listed by James F. Trimble in his Bankbook. However, in his Daybook James adds William Trimble to the list making a total of 12 children. I have no information about William other than that given by James in his Daybook. 2. Although listed as one of their children, Henry Greene Trimble was the grandson of David Franklin and Nancy Tarter Trimble. Henry Greene's parents were Elizabeth Trimble and Henry Lay.
  3. David Trimble, James F. Trimble's father, died December 20, 1856, according to the entries in James Bankbook and his Daybook. In a family tree compiled by my cousin Bill
