a. Note:   He was a very attentive father. A great source of pride to him was that he wouldn't let anyone diaper the kids but him and his wife. When other people were hiring outside help with the children, he refused.
  He spoke German, Slavi (Hungarian), Hebrew, English.
  He brought his family from Hungary to the US departing from Hamburg Germany, and arriving in New York on March 19, 1889 on the "Moravia"
  In 1898, his daughter Esther was sick and he took her to Carlsbad Czechoslovakia for "the cure" at the mineral springs.
  Although he was a Shochet in Hungary, there was no work for one in New York City, so he opened a butcher shop. The shop he opened was the first and only Kosher shop in the 80's on the Upper East Side, and he was extremely successful providing a home delivery service. They lived in a brownstone walkup on 105th Street and Central Park East at the turn of the century. He took in Nathan Sklansky as a partner, and Nathan ran the business after Adolph died.
  After Katie died in 1911, Adolph moved in with the Sklansky's for the remaining 13 years of his life, refusing to even consider remarriage.
  He's buried in Montefiore Cemetary. The tombstone says he's 88, office says he's 66, but he's actually 82.
