Notes
a. Note:   Jacob was a Shochet, and was responsible for the Kashrut of his entire community. After the Hungarian revolution of 1848 he and his wife and children, and his wife's relatives emigrated to Tata Hungary, where they were counted in the 1848 Hungarian Jewish Census.
When he was about 80, the family had a picture taken of him, which they brought to America with them in 1889.
His grandson, Sam, remembered visiting him in his study, and had the impression Jacob was a community Rabbi, and he was probably training other Shochetim. Family legend also has it that Jacob died after being kicked by a bull he was dragging by the tail, when he was at least 90 years old.
