Notes
a. Note:   Page 2 of 2 I do not have a copy of the 1900 census for the Stephen Clark fami ly, but 1 do have the listing for Martin Dye's family, still in Bird Townshi p: Mart Dye, 57, born Oct 1852 (Note error), TN, both parents born TN Carlina Dy e, 52, wife, born May 1848, SC, both parents born SC, mother of 1 child, none l iving Mart and Carlina Dye were shown to have been married 34 years Wi ndell S anders, 18, boarder, born Jan 1882 AR, father born GA, mother born un known Fra nk Sanders, 16, born Oct 1883 AR, father born GA, mother born unknow n Louis Fi nch, 34, nephew, born Jan 1866 AR, father born TN, mother born AR Mart Dye was listed as a farmer, and Frank and Windell Sanders and Louis Finc h were all li sted as farm laborers In 1901 Mart and Caroline Dye moved to Di az, just north of Newport, and lived there one or two years before moving to Newport. Martin Dye died in 1907. His will names his wife Caroline as executri x and gives her a life estate in his property. He left $1 to his brother
(a s the will recites) L ouis Finch, and at the death of Caroline his estate was to be divided between Katie Griffin and Louis Finch, except for $200, which w as to go to his adopted son, Henry Clay. He also left $100 to Lucy Clark.
Ca roline Dye died in 1918. S he left two wills made two weeks apart. Her princi pal bequests were to her neph ew, Mack Griffin, and Irene Atkins, a 12year-ol d girl she was raising. She also left $25 each to Lena Clark and Veneeda Clar k Warren. (I notice Vernealure An n and Alena among the children you listed fo r Lucy Dye Clark.) I find no recor d of an adoption of Lucinda J. Dye by Mar tin or Caroline, and 1 also do not fin d any guardianship for the child. 1 am sure the relationship was an informal on e but one which remained intact unt il the deaths of Martin and Caroline. I tr ust this information is benefici al to you. James Logan Morgan 314 Vine St. N ewport AR 72112 am not much at this e-mail thing. 2/8/00
