Her condition had not been deemed serious during the day by her housekeeper or her daughter, Mrs. Cecile DeVault, who had spent the evening with her. At about 3:30 in the morning her condition became serious and before a physician could reach her bedside she had passed away, at about 4 o'clock. The family moved to Bayard about twenty years ago where Mr. Howell engaged in the butcher business which he conducted successfully until 1913 when he passed away following an operation. Mrs. Howell was a member of the Rebekah lodge but for a number of years had taken no active part in the affairs of the order. She is survived by three children: Mrs. Cecil (sic) DeVault of Bayard. Sam of Gering and Richard of Placerville, Calif.; four grandchildren, a brother William Halloway of Coon Rapids, Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Hess of Yale, Ia., and Mrs Bessie Barst of Adel, Iowa.
