Note: The 1910 census for Linden Town, Linn Township, Dallas Co., IA says that both Samuel Holloway's father was born in Indiana and his mother was born in Ohio. It also says that his marriage to Amanda Snodgrass was his second marriage. OBITUARY--Dallas County News--Adel, Iowa--Wednesday 09 MAY 1928 Samuel Holloway of Linden an old soldier, was laid to rest last Sunday afternoon at Linden, with a fitting military funeral to repay the respect for the service that he had rendered his country during the Civil war, when he served in Company K, of the 44th Infantry Volunteers from Missouri, and was honorably discharged at St. Louis in March, 1865. The services were conducted at the M.E. church in Linden at two o'clock Sunday afternoon with Rev. J.H. Nightingale delivering an appropriate address, which was followed by the ritualistic G.A.R. services, conducted by six surviving comrades who also acted as honorary pall bearers with six sons of veterans as pall bearers. The escort was headed by the Drum corps and followed by a number of American Legion members, who closed he service a the West Linn cemetery with a military salute and taps by the bugler. Samuel Holloway, son of George W. and Sophia Holloway, was born in Schuyler County, Missouri, March 29, 1844, and departed this life at his home in Linden, April 28, 1928, aged 84 years and 27 days. December 18, 1871, he was united in marriage to Amanda J. Snodgrass. To this union was born seven children, Chas. T. of Medford, Oregon; Charlotte C. Howell of Scotts Bluff, Nebraska; William L. of San Diego, California; Nettie Hess of Linden; Bessie Borst of Bagley; Margaret and Gary preceeded him in death. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his passing, eleven grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
