Note: Wheaton Journal, Thursday, August 9, 1928 YOUNG COUPLE WED On Sunday afternoon, August 4th, Mr. Jess Higgs and Miss Mary Tucker drove over to Stella and were united in marriage by Rev. Chas. Vanzandt, pastor of the Stella Baptist Church. Jess is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Higgs highly respected citizens of the Shoal Creek locality. He is also the grandson of the late Uncle Kelly Higgs, also of the late Uncle Andy Baker, who years ago resided east of Cassville. Miss Tucker is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Tucker, of north of Exeter, also highly respected citizens. The best wishes of their many friends go with them in their journey of life together. OBITUARY Jess Higgs Jess Higgs, 99, Pierce City, died Tuesday, July 31 at Aurora Community Hospital. Mr. Higgs was born March 14, 1902 in Exeter, the son of Harve Higgs and Francis Bell Baker Higgs. He was a Baptist minister and worked part-time with Forrest Products. He moved to Pierce City in 1995 from Cassville. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Pierce City. He married Mary Francis Tucker on August 5, 1928 in Stella. She survives. Additional survivors include one daughter, Helen Fisher, Pierce City; two brothers, Hugh Higgs and Junior Higgs, both of Exeter; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Grace; four sisters; two brothers and one great-grandchild. Services were held August 3 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Rex Black, Rev. Greg Bunn and Rev. Danny Heupel officiating. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Exeter. Arrangements were under direction of the Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
