a. Note:   John received a medal inscribed John Aldred, Drummer, 11th Foot which was struck in 1848 to commemorate the Peninsular Wars & bears clasps for a number of campaigns. Curiously medals were not struck before 1848 & then only were issued to living veterans, therefor John lived after 1848. Medal in possession of R.B.Howroyd. The Peninsular Medal Roll 1793-1814 lists John as a Drummer in 11th Foot holding 6 clasps.
