Note: Doris was born July 29, 1920 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Her mother, Viola Rainear, was a milliner and designed hats for a large company in northern New Jersey. Alfred Henry Truitt, her father, was an electrician. In 1925 they moved to Iselin, Middlesex County, New Jersey for Doris to attend school. In 1927 Doris and her parents moved to Metuchen, Middlesex County, New Jersey. Alfred worked as an electrical contractor for the housing development in which they lived. At the onset of the Great Depression the developer lost his assets, burned the mortgages and deeds for the development, and committed suicide. Everyone in the development, including Doris parents, lost their homes. In 1931 they moved to East Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey and moved again in 1934 to Pleasantville, Atlantic County, New Jersey. Viola stayed at her job in East Brunswick for several months, but her family missed her so, and she rejoined them in Pleasantville. Alfred found work where he could, he worked for an oil burner repair service in Atlantic City for awhile. He worked again as an electrician for the Haddon Hall in Atlantic City until the United States Army took over the hotel during World War II. Doris graduated from Pleasantville High School in 1939. She worked as a cashier at the Warner Bros. Rialto Theater while she was in high school and for several years thereafter at several other Warner theaters, including the Virginia, the Stanley and the Warner. Viola continued to be employed in the millinery trade as a designer and had a private clientele until her retirement in the early 1960s. Doris married Roland Barnes Driscoll in 1950. Shortly thereafter, they purchased a farm on Thompson Lane, English Creek, Atlantic County, New Jersey where they operated a poultry business. In 1958 they moved to Ocean City, Cape May County, New Jersey to afford their children, Carol Ann, Robert Barnes and Pamela Diane, a better education in the local school system. Doris and Barney owned and operated a Record and Hobby shop in Ocean City for several years. In 1962 Barney began work as a teacher in Ocean City and Doris became a full time mother and housewife. As a teacher, Barney was able to take extended vacations each summer. Doris and her family took up camping cross country. Traveling throughout the eastern United States, New England, and an unforgettable camping trip to the West Coast. They visited most of the larger National Parks, including the Grand Canyon, Painted Dessert, Sequoia, and Yellowstone. Seeing the Rockies, Death Valley, the Pacific Ocean, The Great Salt Lake, Mount Rushmore and Disneyland. Doris and Barney continued to enjoy traveling after their retirement. They spent many summers in Maine and took a freighter cruise to Europe touring the continent and England and Ireland. Doris is the Grandmother of nine children, Great grandmother of three.
