  The following is true and correct copy of Revolutionary War Pension Record W 11 739 as issued by the National Archives, Wash. DC When Rebecca Wallace, widow of Captain Thomas Wallace, applied for pension in March 1839, on his Revolutionary War service it was stated:
  "He entered service at the commencement of the war as a private under command of Capt. James Barr (Barris), marched from Mecklenburg Co., NC, and served three months in an expedition against the Cherokee Indians: he marched from that same county under the same officer and served three months in an expedition at Hillsboro, NC , during which he was in some skirmishes: about August or September 1780, he raised a volunteer company of mounted riflemen and commanded them in the battle of "Kings Mountain"; in July 1781, he assisted in raising a company of mounted riflemen, was elected captain and served under Colonel Isaac Shelby at the "High Hills of Santee" in SC, during which he was in a skirmish near "Muncks Corner". His service as an officer amounted to at least four, as much as, six months." Revolutionary War Records show: Capt. Thomas Wallace enlisted at the beginning of the war from Mecklenburg, Co. NC, then moved to Sullivan Co. , NC, He married Rebecca Milligan May 13, 1770, and died in Morgan Co., Ala. April 1830, age 85 years. Surviving children were Joel, Thomas, William and Ruth. Pension Record: W11 739 National Archives, Washington DC.
  A list of the "Battle of King's Mountain" shows: "Capt. Thomas Wallace was born in Maryland, 1745, married Rebecca Milligan in 1770 and died, Montgomery Co. Ala., 1830.
  The King's Men, by Katherine Keogh White, Dayton, Va. 1924, pp 243-244 (R973.3) "Wallace, Thomas was born in Maryland, 1745 and died in Montgomery Co., Ala., 1830. He served under Shelby. He married Rebecca Milligan who applied for pension in 1839, and died 1840 age 91. The children Joel, Thomas, William and Ruth."

  John Wallace of Bibb Co., AL testified in 1837 that he had know Capt. Thomas Wallace 70 years before his death, attended his marriage to Rebecca Milligan and lived near them many years and was with him at the Battle of King's Mountain. He did not state his relationship.
  On November 4, 1853 pension certificate #525 was issued to Joel Wallace, administrator de bo'nis non of estate of Rebecca Wallace and the arrears of pension covering the periods from March 4, 1831 to Sept. 4, 1840 were paid to him by he pension agent at Himtsville, AL on Mar. 31, 1854.
  Deed book #3 Sullivan County, AL shows warranty deed dated Oct. 15, 1800 that land on Beaver Creek, Sullivan Co., NC and was part of a tract of 200 acres which was granted to Thomas Wallace by the State of NC, March 10, 1784, the Patent being #358. This deed was signed by Joseph Wallace (possibly Thomas' brother or father) and Abraham Cross in open court Sullivan Co., NC session 1808 registered Aug. 11, 1800.

  From Alabama Historical Quarterly Winter Issue 1944 - p. 666 - Wallace, Thomas - His widow, Rebecca Wallace, applied for a pension in Morgan County, AL, March 27, 1839, but died September 4, 1840 or September 1, 1841, before her pension was allowed. Her husband, Thomas Wallace, died in Lincoln County, GA, April 1, 19, or 23, 1830. She also made the statement that he died in Morgan County, AL. She stated that he entered the service at the beginning of the War; marched from Mecklenburg County, NC, served with the North Carolina Troops under Capt. James Barr and Col. Isaac Shelby; went on two expeditions against the Cherokee Indians; was in the battle of King's Mountain and in some skirmishes; served as a private and captain, amounting in all to fifteen months. During the time of his service he resided in Mecklenburg, Co., NC and Sullivan Co., NC. Children who survived their mother: William, who died before the pension certificate was issued; Joel, aged eighty, administrator of her estate and a resident of Morgan Co., AL; Thomas, also of Morgan Co., AL, and Ruth, who died unmarried in 1852.   From The Roster of Texas Daughters Revolutionary Ancestors, Texas, 1976, p. 2212 -- Entered NC troops under Capt. Barr and Col. Isaac Shelby. He was in raids against the Indians. He had 15 months service. He was a captain in a mounted rifle company and was at the Battle of King's Mountain. Residence Sullivan County, NC, (now TN)."
