Note: According to information by Robert Roberts Burgess was married to Ellen Proffit in 1868. Family information is that his wife died when son Riley was about 5 and Burgess remarried. If this is correct Burgess, his parents were Richard and Mary Scoggin.

On April 13, 1889, Burgess and Mary E. Scoggins mortgaged personal property consisting of 2 steer, 1 cow and their corn and cotton crops raised in 1889, planted on land at or near Salado Creek.
Per Letona Elms in Kevil, KY on 12-15-90, she found Burgess in the 1890 Personal Property tax assessment list of Independence Co, AR in Corner Stone School Dist $63.00. Said he and Riley should be on th 1900/1910 census of same county.

Per Betty Jo, He died in a poor house outside of Batesville and is buried there.
