a. Note:   George came to New Zealand from England after studying at Dulwich and Wye Colleges with the intention of farming in New Zealand. Leaving England 15 August 1901 landing in New Zealand in October at Auckland on N.Z. steam ship Paparoa. After working for Arthur Rutherford in Pungarehu, Taranaki, and buying a farm in Taranaki, and then one on Tenfoot road in the Waikato, he bought his last farm in 1919 of 417 acres named Mangamaire after a stream which ran through the property and supplied water to a pelton wheel, originally from the Thames hospital to generate electricity. This farm was once a large block owned by Sir William Herries eight miles south from Te Aroha on the base of the Kaimai hills he farmed in partnership with his eldest son James and later moved to Mount Maunganui in the Bay of Plenty building a residence called Reo Moana on the ocean beach at the Mount where he lived till his death.
