Note: Birth Certificate # Marriage Certificate # Death Certificate # Enlisted in the AIF (Australian Imperial Forces), in April 1915. He served with "A" Company 21st Battalian in Egypt. On the 2nd September 1915 as he was sailing from Egypt to Gallipoli, his ship the "Southland" was struck by a torpedo. He was later rescued. He fought for a few months at Gallipoli before contracting Typhod Fever. After being sent to Alexandra then on to England by ship the ship caught fire but managed to limp to England. On being discharge from hospital he was given furlough for three months. Furlough ended on the 6th June 1916 and within 6 days he was sent to France. Soon after his transfer he sent a parcel home to his parents containing his belongings, without a letter of explaination. The Battalion was sent to Pozieres in France. Here he fulfilled his duties as a stretcher bearer until as a result of his wounds he died. Harold is buried at Puchevillers, France, British Cemetery, Plot 1, Row E, Grave # 69.
