Note: Obituary: Center Point Journal June 16, 1910 Obituary of Mrs. Hoglan After months of suffering, Mrs. Mary A. Hoglan, one of the oldest, best known and most respected of Linn county's pioneers, passed to her eternal abode Monday night, June 6, 1910. Mary A. Vansickle was born at Newcomerstown, Ohio, June 28th, 1827. She was married to Jackson Hoglan April 6, 1847. In 1849 they came to Linn county and entered government land near Green's Grove and have resided on the old homestead ever since. Mrs. Hoglan was the mother of eleven children, all of whom were living until a year ago when the oldest, Mrs. Myra Oliphant, was called away. The others are Mrs. Sarah A. Brown, of this place, Garret, L., of Wyoming, Samuel C. and Mrs. Dora Thompson, of this place, Mrs. Nina Newman, of Toddville, Mrs. Addie Mounce, of Idaho, Arhur J. and Herman K., of this place, Selden F., of Cedar Rapids, and Tilden V., of this place. She leaves beside her children to mourn her loss the aged companion now heart-broken in his lonliness, who walked with her along life's pathway for more than sixty years; thirty-three grand-children, twenty three great-grand-children, and scores of loving friends. Mrs. Hoglan was for many years a member of the Christian church and her religion was of the exalted type which manifests itself in deeds of loving service. Her door always swung on hospitable hinges and opened to several orphans in her long lifetime to whom she gave a mother's care. Her life speaks louder than tongue or pen. The funeral service was conducted by Jesse E. Heins at the Congregational church in Greens Grove Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, and the remains were laid to rest in the Oliphant cemetery.
