Notes
a. Note:   REFN: 149 In 1826, Stephen Balliet, Jr. and Samuel Helffrich pruchased 25 acres of land at the foot of the Blue Mountains, in Washington Township, Lehigh County, on which they erected an iron furnace. Originally it was called the Balliet Furnace, but later became known as the Lehigh Furnace. Other adjoining tracts were subsequently purchased. " The first apparatus for screening ore was made by Fritz Guh, an ingenious German, who was persuaded by Stephen Balliet, II to immigrate to this country, and who for many years lived at Ruchville."
