a. Note:   William Brannon, Sr. was of Irish descent. He was believed to have been a brother of Thomas Brannon Sr. and Hedrick Brannon. He married Mary Paine who was b. in Fairfax Co. VA. According to DeWeese, "...he lived at Georgetown on the Potomac River in the District of Columbia and emigrated to the then far West in about l804, came to where Arnoldsburg now is and stopped with Peter McCune Sr., ...he being a tailor by trade and an inexperienced woodsman, consequently could not wield an ax with any degree of certainty, Peter McCune, Sr., ...Samaritan like, gave up his log cabin and little improvements to William Brannon, Sr.."
  It is believed that this son wook on the prefix fiven name of "Wrighter" due to an ealy occupation of fWright such as wheelwright, and is the same man who later married Mary Paine. His name hs been found in the records as William At Brannon, William A., and William Wrighter. Source: Donna Wallbrown.
  William and Mary Paine Brannon were the parents of 11 children: John, born 1800 m. Nancy Helmick dau. of Abraham Helmick; Thomas P. b. 1804, m. Lydia Wilson dau. of Mary Wilson; Squire William Jr. b. 1805 m. Catherine King; Lorenzo m. Keziah Barnhouse; Jacob m. Nancy Moore; Elizabeth b. 1809 m. Leonard King; Mary m. John Truman; Catherine b. 1812 m. John Wilson; Dianna m. Alva Laughlin; Susanna b. 1825 m. Jacob Helmick and later married Abaham Miller; and Nancy who married Daniel Starcher, Sr.
  William was one of three brothers who came from Washington, DC. There was Hannibal Brannon who was b. ca. 1764 reputed to be a cattle dealer and was allegedly murdered.
  The other brother was Thomas Brannon, Sr. b. ca. 1766 settled at Turkey Pen in Gilmer Co.
