Note: The Crowder's were early settlers in Virginia. The oldest record is of Hugh Crowder. He came to James City (now known as Jamestown) in the ship Bona Nova in 1619. In the muster rolls of settlers in Virginia, taken 1624/25, he is shown as a planter of James City with 5 servants. He died in 1628 without a will. The General Assembly appointed Rice (Richard) Watkins as adminstrator of his estste. No record can be found of Hugh's estate. The records in James City were burned during the REV WAR as well as THE WAR BETWEEN THE STATES. The State House in James City was burned in the late 1600's and the State House was moved to present Williamsburg, VA. Hugh Crowder sat in the House of Burgess in 1624 and represented the Plantations across the Water in what is now present day Surry County, VA. He owned a 300 acre plantation and worked for the London Company. It is beleived that Henry Crowder in Charles City County, VA is the grandson of Hugh Crowder. No proof can be found. It is estimated that Henry Crowder was born about 1635/40. Henry Crowder died 1689 according to Charles City County, VA. Court Orders 1687-1695.
