a. Note:   MRS ARDIS BROWNE SMITH (Source: Pleasant Hill Historical Society, news article dated December 28, 1950) Former P. H. Woman Died Last Thursday in San Francisco Mrs. Ardis Browne Smith, 83, formerly of Pleasant Hill died last Thursday in San Francisco. The funeral was conducted in that city Saturday by Dr. Criton, Presbyterian pastor, and the body was cremated, the ashes being buried at Wyandotte, Okla., where Mrs. Smith's husband and son lie buried. Surviving Mrs. Smith are her sister, Mrs. Anna Edelen, Pleasant Hill, and brothers, Edw. Browne, Los Angeles and W. C. Browne, Rogers, Ark. Mrs. Smith who was a daughter of Stephen and Margaret Browne, was born in Perryville, Ky., Jan. 5, 1867, and the family came to Pleasant Hill Dec. 24, 1879. She was reared here, here affiliated with the Presbyterian church and in the early 90's was married to Roy Smith of El Reno, Okla. There was one child, a son, but he died in early youth a year after his father passed away. Mrs. Smith for several years of her widowhood was a government employee, but of recent years had been a resident of San Francisco.
