Notes
a. Note:   The Joseph S. Nelson, 7320-156 St., Edmonton, Alberta T5R 1X3 Canada source shows her date of death as 20 October 1947, Greenville Hospital, Greenville, California. MRS. ELEANOR SCHIESER (Source: Pleasant Hill Historical Society, news article dated October 23, 1947) By Mrs. S. B. Longacre. Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of saints. And how rapidly are the ranks here being thinned to add to the throng over there. One of the latest to be transplanted to the brighter sphere -- one who in her earlier years lived and moved among us -- one who is held in loving memory still, after an absence of so many years -- is Mrs. Eleanor Browne Schieser, who died at her home in Greenville, Calif. following a period of ill health, a final stroke culminating in her death at 5 o'clock Tuesday morning October 21. Daughter of Stephen E. and Margaret Meyer Browne, one of a family of seven children (two sons and five daughters) four of whom survive, she was born near Danville, Ky., Feb. 12, 1871. Her childhood and earlier girlhood was in Pleasant Hill. Her married years were spent in California. She identified herself with church and school work and community welfare, she being a life-long member of the Presbyterian church, and her influence for good was strongly felt where her lot was cast. The bereaved relatives recall that one year ago the two brothers and three sisters spent some happy days together at the Edelen home in Pleasant Hill where the group came together for, as it proved, a farewell visit for the beloved sister. Mrs. Schieser is survived also by one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Nelson, and three grandsons in British Columbia. The final rites were in her home town and she rests in her home town cemetery by the side of the husband, Andy Schieser, who died some several years ago. She was preceded also by two sisters. Miss Betty Browne in her young womanhood and a younger sister of a few months, Lucy. The brothers surviving are Edwin A. Browne of Long Beach, Calif., and William C. Browne of Rogers, Ark. The sisters are Mrs. Anna Edelen of Pleasant Hill and Mrs. Ardis B. Smith of San Francisco. Mrs. Schieser having lived through the long span of 76 years, 8 months and 7 days has faced the reality that -- Earth's hold on us grows slighter And the dawn's immortal brighter Every year.
