a. Note:   The Texas Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, Standard Certificate of Death - A. H. Smith source shows his name as Orvel Smith. The 1850 federal census for Sumner Co., Tennessee shows the value of his real estate owned as $1,600.
  The 1860 federal census for Fannin Co., Texas shows the value of his real estate owned as $5,500 and the value of his personal estate as $2,000. It also shows the following person living in his dwelling: Silas Smith, age 52, Gun Smith, value of real estate owned $1,250, value of personal estate as $100, born in Kentucky
  Orville was born in Sumner County, Tennessee near Hendersonville.
  He was the son of William Smith and Nancy Powell.
  He married Martha Ann Montgomery 28 Sep 1837 in Sumner County.
  Orville, Martha and their six children left their home 18 miles from Nashville for Texas on October 23, 1851 and settled in Honey Grove. In 1858 they bought the hotel built by Granville Tucker in 1856 and named it Smith Hotel. After Orville died Martha continued to operate the hotel. The hotel was listed in the inventory of Martha's estate.
  After Martha's death her children continued to run the hotel and stable
