a. Note:   The Texas Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics, Standard Certificate of Death - A. H. Smith source shows her name as Miss Montgomery. Martha Ann Smith was the wife of Orville Smith.
  She was born in Sumner County, Tennessee the daughter of William Montgomery and Mary Walton Martin.
  Martha and Orville immigrated to Honey Grove from Sumner County in 1851. In 1858 they bought the hotel built by Granville Tucker and called it the Smith Hotel. Martha continued to operate the hotel after Orville's death in 1864.
  After Martha's death in 1875 John Ballinger, husband of martha's daughter Lizzie, filed an inventory and appraisement of Martha's estate that included "Hotel building, stables and other improvements known as the Smith Hotel valued at $4,000.
