a. Note:   The 1850 federal census for Monroe Co., Ohio shows the following family in the dwelling adjacent to Thomas W. and Emily Gulick ((Emily's parents)): Lemuel S. Rucker, age 40, farmer, born in Virginia (name appears to be either Samuel or Lemuel in the 1850 census) (value of real estate owned $3,400) Sarah, age 41, born in Pennsylvania Asbury, age 14, born in Ohio Elias, age 10, born in Ohio Silas, age 10, born in Ohio William S., age 7, born in Ohio Mary E., age 4, born in Ohio James F., age 2, born in Ohio I believe that this is Emily's family -- see Seneca Township, District No. 107, Monroe Co., Ohio, Dwelling No. 182.
  Information from the Family History Library, Salt Lake City, Utah shows that Lemuel S. Rucker was born 10 June 1809 in Virginia, and died 1852 in Lawrence Co., Ohio. He was the son of Ambrose Rucker and Sarah Steele. Information on the Lawrence Register, Genealogical and Historical Website for Lawrence Co., Ohio shows that Daniel Nance's heirs sold land on 14 March 1851 to Lemuel S. Rucker.
  Lemuel Rucker is shown in the 1840 Seneca Township, Monroe Co., Ohio census with the following information: 3 Free white males under 5 1 Free white male 30 & under 40 2 Free white females 5 & under 10 1 Free white female 10 and under 15 1 Free white female 20 & under 30 8 Total 1 Employed in manufacture and trade
  Emeline Gulick wife of Thomas Gulick of Maryville, died 23 July 1891 at residence of brother, Martin Rucker near Center Grove, 69 years, leave one son Charles F, two daughters, Nettie E and Jessie C. Daughter of Lemuel Booten Rucker and Lucy Blake
