The 1850 federal census for Franklin Co., Kentucky shows the following information for Margaret Crockett: Margaret Crockett, age 59, born in Virginia Richard E. Crockett, age 23, farmer, born in Virginia Granville B. Crockett, age 20, farmer, born in Virginia James M.   Will Book 2 1824-1854 Page 16 Be it remembered that, I William R. Crockett of the county of Franklin and State of Kentuck being afflicted in body but of Sound mind and disposing memory and knowing the uncertainty of this life, do make this my last will and testament inform following: 1st. It is my will and desire that my beloved wife, Peggy shall control and have the use of the following property both real and personal during her natural life. Viz: All of my land with the improvements and all that ascertain hereunto, together with the following Slaves, Ellen & her child Kitty, Harriet & her child Martha - a girl named Eliza, two men Lewis and Renton, two boys Tom & Bob, also the following horses, one called Luce, one called Roan Mare a roan horse, one called Pat, making four in number, also four milk cows, 2 small heffers, 2 small steers (the cattle she is to select herself & have choice) Also yoke of oxen & cart, half of all my hogs, half of all my sheep, also 4 pair or gear, all my ploughs, single tree clevis's plough stretchery & also my wheat fan also all my household & kitchen furniture and all my cupboard furniture.
  2nd. It is my desire that my give to each of my children, Viz: Samuel O., Kitty A. D., Richard E., Granville B. and James M., a bed & (provisions) when they stand in need of it -
  3rd. It is my desire that each of my children, Viz; Kitty A.D., Richard E., Granville B. and James M. shall at my death have a horse & saddle apiece. I also give to my Grandson, William Acton a horse & saddle. I also give to my granddaughter, Mary E. Landry a horse to be worth not less than thirty five dollars -
  4th I desire that my Executors herein after named shall at my death sell all the balance to my personal property (Slaves excepted) that shall be left after the forgoing demise, are completed with, and out of the proceeds arising therefrom pay all my just debts & funeral expenses.
  5th. I wish it to be distinctly understood that if any of my children shall ever marry their cousins that they are never to have one cent of my estate -
  6th. I charge my son Anthony three hundred dollars for the tow negroes I gave him, a woman named Eady and a girl Evoline, also three hundred & fifty dollars which I gave that was coming to me from fathers estate as my portion of the negroes making in all six hundred & fifty dollars that he must account for in the division of my estate -
  7th. I also charge Mary Acton with the three hundred dollars for a negro woman named, Martha, which she must account for in the the division.
  8th. It is my wish that my youngest son, James M. have a negro boy extra as he is yet to be raised & educated and therefore I give him the right to choose either one he wants from the size of Bob & under -
  9th. I hereby constitute and appoint my friends, Samuel B. Sofield, William Hall and David Williams appraisers of my estate -
  10th. It is my desire that at my death all my Slaves that I have not disposed of shall be valued by the appraisers I have selected & appointed and divided equally among all my children, Viz: Anthony Crockett, Mary Acton, Samuel O. Crockett, Kitty A. D. Crockett, Richard E. Crockett, Granville B. Crockett and James M. Crockett by letting them draw lost after they are valued and lotted off.
  11th. I do hereby constitute and appoint my son, Samuel O. Crockett guardian for my son, James M. Crockett to receive & take care of him & his portion of my estate.
  12th. At the death of my wife, I wish all my land estate together with the slaves (and with increase of the slaves) that is bequeathed to her to be equally divided among all my children here in before mentioned by being valued by the before mentioned appraisers, and the slaves drawn for by the children as before mentioned, my land I wish it to be layed off in seven lots as have seven children, both to contain quantity agreeable to quantity and drawn for by the children the same as the Slaves.
  13th. It is my desire that in case my friends whom I have appointed as my appraisers should fail to act or any one of them, by refusal, death or otherwise I want the County Court to appoint others in their place who will carry out my wishes. -
  14th. All the rest & residue of my estate of whatever kind it may be, not heretofore specified, I desire shall be equally divided among all my children herein before mentioned.
  15th. And lastly, I do hereby constitute & appoint my son, A. Crockett & my friend J____? Wright my Executors of this my last will and testament hereby revolking all others.
  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand affixed my seal this 26 day of April 1846. Wm. R. Crockett (seal) Witnesses: L. C. Kinney David Williams Franklin County Court, May Term 1846 A writing purporting to be the last will and testament of William R. Crockett, dec's was produced in Court, and was proven by the oaths of L. C. Kinney and David Williams the subscribing witnesses thereto is ordered to be recorded as the last will and testament the the said, William R. Crockett.
