  Medicine Lodge, KS newspaper.
Eugene Youmans was born in Washington, New Jersey, September 5, 1859 (the son of Samuel & Matilda Youmans); died March 21, 1911, aged 51 years, 6 months, and 16 days. He died of a fatal stroke of paralysis and apoplexy.
Mr. Youmans came to Medicine Lodge in the early 80's, worked in the Youmans store until the death of his uncle, Ed Youmans (1836-1903), and after that time worked in several different stores. At the time of his death, he was employed with The Medicine Lodge Mercantile Company.
In the early 90's he married to Miss Stella Stevens, who with a daughter survives him.
His death brings profound sorrow to the hearts of his great number of friends and they extend to Mrs. Youmans and daughter most sincere sympathy. Mr. Youmans devoted himself to his task. His was a fine example of a man whose industry was remarkable. He regarded his employer's interests as his own and enjoyed his work. Few men apply themselves as continuously to their daily duties without vacation or rest as he did. In his home life he was all that a husband and father could be, and in itself will stand as an everlasting monument to his memory.
The funeral service of Eugene Youmans whose death was noted last week was held at the family residence on Thursday afternoon, March 23, 1911, the Presbyterian pastor conducted the services.
The Modern Woodmen of America in which Mr. Youmans carried $3000 insurance, attended the funeral in a body and conducted the ritualistic service at the grave. All the business houses in the city closed during the funeral hours and attendence was very large.
